"Automatic" is a funky New Wave-styled dance number by the Pointer Sisters, released on the Planet Records label in 1984. The song became one of the Pointers' signature tunes and was the first of four consecutive top ten singles from their multi-platinum landmark album, Break Out. The song, which features Ruth Pointer's deep lead vocals, soared to number five on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart and number two on the U.S. Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and U.S. Hot Dance Club Play charts. It repeated that success in other countries such as Canada and the United Kingdom (where it made it to number two only kept from the top spot by Frankie Goes to Hollywood's "Relax"). The song also became the Sisters' only #1 in the Republic of Ireland.
- In 1987, "Automatic" is featured in the made-for-television reunion film The Return of the Six Million Dollar Man and the Bionic Woman (1987).
- The song "Automatic" was featured in the popular game GTA:Vice City, and can be found on radio stations available when Tommy Vercetti (the main character) is in a car, motorcycle, or a boat. It is also the song that is usually heard playing when the player enters The Malibu Dance Club.
- In 2007, "Automatic" was covered by dance singer Ultra Naté. Her version topped the U.S. dance chart, hitting number one in the issue dated April 28, 2007.
