Autoinducer
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
An autoinducer (AI), otherwise called a pheromone, is a signaling molecule used by bacteria participating in quorum sensing.
In pharmacology, the term autoinducer also refers to a compound that induces the enzymes responsible for its own metabolism.
One common type of phermonal autoinducer is an acyl homoserine lactone (AHL), which is used in Serratia liquefaciens motility gene expression.
