AutoTRAX EDA

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Autotrax EDA is an electronic design automation software made by Kovac Software with a download base of over 60,000 people, and is used in many educational institutions due to it being free. Autotrax supports schematic and PCB design as well as SPICE simulation.

AutoTRAX EDA is a schematic capture and PCB layout designer. It features both 2D and 3D features. AutoTRAX incorporates all relevant features from Orcad, Protel, Altium and Diptrace and builds on advanced 2D and 3D graphics technology developed by from Kovac Software. Custom software versions can be commissioned on request. Export and import features include AutoCAD dxf, Adobe PDF. The comprehensive integral SPICE circuit simulation built into the schematic capture editor provides an easy to use electonic workbench. You can preview your final design using the Active3D 3D visualization.

AutoTRAX EDA is owned by Ilija Kovacevic, the author of the software. Currently AutoTRAX EDA is available on Microsoft Windows platforms. However, work is well under way in making it available on the Linux and Apple Mac OS X platorms. The multiple platform version is called Leonardo. Leonardo is currently free and available from the links below. The User group currently has 2,500 members.

The name AutoTRAX was first used by Protel for their product, Autotrax, in the late 80's and 90's. Protel's Autotrax is a PCB CAD package that is not to be confused with Kovac's autotrax EDA, which came later and is not compatible with it. Protel's Autotrax is available as a free download from Altium, and has an active user community. Unfortunately, Electronic Design Automation (EDA) does not serve to disambiguate (Kovac's) Autotrax EDA from (Protel/Altium's) Autotrax.

Altium Limited (Protel) owns the registered Autotrax trademark - Registration Number 2715664. Kovac Software has not registered the trademark.
