Auto-Saharan Company
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Auto-Saharan Company was an Italian military unit specialising in long range Sahara desert patrolling, from the late 1930s to the Italian surrender in 1943.
The company was comprised of desert veterans crewing various Fiat and Lancia trucks equipped with heavy machine guns and 20 mm AA weapons, together with some armoured cars. In concept the Company was similar to the British Long Range Desert Group which was created in 1940, except that the company also had the support of its own air arm to assist in long range reconnaissance and ground attack.
