[edit] Ken Ticehurst
Federal Member for Dobell
Major political achievements
- Construction of water pipeline from Mardi to Mangrove Dam
- This pipeline has been many years in planning and was brought to mass public attention as local water restrictions were set at stage 4. Its construction will drought proof the Central Coast area providing the ability to increase current catchment area by 600%
- Construction of water pipeline from Newcastle to Mardi Dam
- This pipeline allows the Central Coast and Newcastle regions to draw available water from each other as required. It was very import dring drought conditions in early 2007.
- Tuggerah Lake Improvement
- Tuggerah Lake is a Central Point of the Dobell electorate and a focal point of the Central Coast, New South Wales, over time the lake has deteriorated. The Federal Government has contributed to a massive restoration program proposed by Wyong Shire Council
- Review into Child Support Agency and Family Court
- In consultation with various support groups Ticehurst convinced the Prime Minister, John Howard to convene an enquiry into the procedures of these agencies. This resulted in the most public submissions to any previous parliamentary enquiry. The enquiry produced a report Every picture tells a story: Report on the inquiry into child custody arrangements in the event of family separation. This lead to significant changes to both departments including shared parenting considerations and changes to the way Child Support is calculated.
- Dredging of Tumbi Umbi Creek
- Tumbi Umbi Creek is located in the heart of Dobell running into Tuggerah Lake. Over several years the creek mouth silted up becoming completely blocked. Local residents lobbied Wyong Shire Council to dredge the creek allowing local fishermen and local residents access to the lakes. This project spent many years being bandied around local media between local MPs from both State and Federal Government each calling o the other to fund the project.
- Despite the announcement of Regional Partnerships funding for this controversial project in 2004, only a small sample dredging has taken place. This project was the focus of a senate committee inquiry after accusations of Pork Barrelling by the incumbent government to assist a key marginal seat. An ongoing media battle has ensued between the State Government who are the authorising body and Ticehurst for several years.
