This user's first car was an Austin A30 |
As a family we owned 3 different A30s in the 1950's and 60's.
Starting with a new Black 2 door A30 in 1954 OLT 117 this one had a red interior. Then in 1956 we had a Tintern Green 2 door, I think the interior was dark green reg was SGN 556. Both of these cars were bought from "The Car Mart" an Austin dealer in Ealing, west London. Finally we bought a car about 5 years old VPK 361 in 1962, this was Grey with red trim. The weak point on all of these and two A35's we had later was the braking system. The annual MOT test became a nightmare with feverish work needed to tune up the brakes, especially the rear ones. Somehow it always passed. VPK 361 took four full grown persons overland via Swiss mountain passes from Middlesex to the Mediterranean coast of Italy, with baggage piled high on a roof rack. We got a puncture but otherwise had a faultless run.
