Australian cars

Australia is an established automobile manufacturer and exporter, both building engines and designing their own vehicles. In addition to the countries' booming industry, Australia has a massive racing scene including V8 Supercars and Formula 1 racing. Australia is home to such cars as the Ford Falcon, Holden Commodore, and Toyota Aurion.

Australia has been responsible for many innovations in the automobile industry, such as the invention of the ute; and the production of some of the fastest cars ever made. Examples include the Ford GTHO and several HSVs.

Holden Ute to be Exported to US

2008-03-15

It has been confirmed that the Holden VE Commodore Ute (pictured) will be exported to the United States and sold there under the Pontiac badge in 2009. The deal has ended years of speculation of the export; and confirms Holden as a 'key cog' in the General Motors development plan.

The Commodore Ute will serve as a 'spiritual successor' to the Chevrolet El Camino, which was discontinued in 1987. The new ute will be called the Pontiac Sport Truck, and will join its Australian counterpart, the G8 which is yet to be released.
