- 1866 - Frederick Augustus Bolles Peters, the founder of Peters Icecream, "The Health Food of a Nation" born in Scio, Michigan.
- 1957 - Larry Anthony, Federal Minister in the Menzies Government, dies in Murwillumbah, New South Wales. His son, Doug Anthony, is elected in a subsequent byelection as Member for the Division of Richmond.
