• 1842 - Mary MacKillop, the only Australian nun to be beatified, is born in Fitzroy, Victoria.
• 1944 - Australian 9th Division capture the town of Sio destroying the Japanese 20th Division in the protracted Huon Peninsula Campaign.
• 1944 - HMAS Bataan, a Tribal-class destroyer, is launched by Mrs. Douglas MacArthur, wife of General Douglas MacArthur.
• 1987 - Greg Inglis, rugby league player for the Melbourne Storm, is born in Kempsey, New South Wales.
