AUSTRUMI (Austrum Latvijas Linukss) is a business card size (50 MB) bootable live CD Linux distribution. It is based on Slackware Linux with initialization scripts borrowed from the Blin project. It was created and is currently being maintained by a group of programmers from Latgale region of Latvia. The current official release of Austrumi Linux is 1.6.5. It requires limited system resources and can run on any Intel-compatible system with a CD-ROM installed. The entire operating system and all the applications run from RAM, making Austrumi a fast system[citation needed], and allowing the boot medium to be removed after the operating system starts.
It currently contains 51 packages including graphic editors, office suite, networking tools, Internet browsers, FTP and mail clients, multimedia packages, classic games and system tools. It used openbox as its window manager prior to release 1.2.0. In release 1.2.0 it switched over to the Enlightenment window manager and in release 1.5.0 to the Metacity window manager.
