Austro-Daimler 6

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Austro-Daimler 6 was a 6 cylinder liquid-cooled inline engine first produced in 1910. The Austro-Daimler 6 was unique in that it was designed from the outset to be an aircraft engine. The engine was designed by Dr-Ing Ferdinand Porsche. It is not surprising that the engine was of excellent quality and inspired many imitators such as Mercedes D.II, Benz Bz.IV, Beardmore, and Hiero 6. Aircraft often substituted the Mercedes engines in production due to greater availability.
