For the first time since 1994, Austria has had a National Final in 2002. The programme was called "song://null.zwei" (s02) and took place during the first week of March. Just like Germany there was a big interest from the media in Austria. One of the competitors were Grissemann & Stermann; this duo relied on a big audience like they have had in previous years.
The Austrian Final was held on March 1st at the ORF TV Studios in Vienna, hosted by Andi Knoll. The winner was chosen by televoting, SMS votes and an internet jury consisting of 2002 people who had won a quiz to be on the internet jury. Each awarded 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5 points to their 5 favourite songs. The winner of the national final was the Austrian singer Manuel Ortega, who sang the song Say a word.
Manual Ortega came 18th at the Eurovision Song Contest 2002.
