[edit] History

AAHR was originally founded in 1979 by Ms Elizabeth Ahlston.

In 1991 AAHR launched the "New Educational Aids in Medicine and Science" (NEAMS) Trust which funded non-animal research. In 2000 the organization set up another trust fund - "Medical Advances Without Animals" or MAWA - to again directly fund medical research that did not involve animals.

In 2005 the AAHR headquarters moved from Sydney to Melbourne. The AAHR CEO now receives a salary.
