Austin E. Quigley

Austin E. Quigley is Dean of Columbia College of Columbia University in New York City. He was born the second of five children in Northumbria. Both his parents were school teachers. He earned Bachelor's degree in English Literature at Nottingham University and a Master's degree in Linguistics at Birmingham University. In the 1960s he moved to the United States where he earn his doctorate in English and Comparative Literature and Literary Theory at the University of California at Santa Cruz.
In 1990 he taught at at the University of Massachusetts and the University of Virginia, where he was the Chair of the English department.
He is married and has four daughters.
