Aurora Robson (born May 9th, 1972 in Toronto, Canada) is a contemporary artist who works with installations, works on paper, paintings, sculpture, video, photography, and performance art. Robson has described herself as being primarily a sculptor.
Robson spent her youth primarily in Hawaii where she began her artistic pursuits. The natural forms and cultural tension that she encountered there helped create the foundations for the philosophy behind her work. Robson moved to New York City in 1991 where she studied welding at Apex Technical School and became a NYS certified structural welder. She then entered Columbia University where she studied Visual Arts and Art History under artists Jon Kessler and Tomas Vu-Daniel, and art historians Rosalind E. Krauss and Jan Avgikos. She received her B.A. from Columbia University in 2000. She also occasionally teaches sculptural and structural welding at the Educational Alliance Art School where artists Mark Rothko, Barnett Newman, Peter Blume and Louise Nevelson taught.
