Auraria Stakes

The Auraria Stakes is a Group 3 Australian thoroughbred horse race for fillies aged 3 years old, over a distance of 1800m.

The race is named in honour of the horse Auraria, winner of the 1895 Melbourne Cup.

It is held annually at Cheltenham Park in Adelaide.

1944 - 1972 held over 9 furlongs (approx. 1800m)
1973 - 1980 held over 1800m
1981 - 1984 held over 1850m
1985 onwards held over 1200m.

1944 – 1979 was a Principal Race
1980 onwards Group 3

1944 - 1998 the race was known as the ‘Auraria Stakes’
1999 - 2005 the race was known as the ‘Lakewood Stud Stakes’
2006 onwards the race has been called the ‘Auraria Stakes’.
