[edit] Duplication of 1 Aug

on 1 Aug we note "1834 - Slavery is abolished in the British Empire" but on 23 August we note "1833 - Slavery abolished in the British colonies". My understanding was that slavery was abolished throughout the Empire in 1833, I think some colonies (possibly Canada) abolished earlier but this wouldn't have been every colony in the Empire. Does anyone have more concrete info on what is the correct date? AllanHainey 10:53, 26 July 2005 (UTC)

[edit] unimporant people adding dates

ive had to rv a few times because someone keeps adding their birthday, and they are of no historical sigfigance (google)... i may have to anon prot the page if it continues. --NightDragon 14:47, 1 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] One way street

I've removed the event:

because I can't find any evidence of this. Most of the results of a Google search for "first one way street" say that Albermarle Street in 1808 was the first in London (due to congestion caused by people flocking to hear science lectures from Sir Humphrey Davy apparently).

[edit] Mexican Independence

I removed the entry for 1821 stating that Mexico gained independence from Spain. The Treaty of Codoba was signed August 24, 1821, and the entry is duplicated on tomorrow's date.

[edit] 1833 Slavery abolition

I have removed the following line from the article:

This date is clearly wrong, as the legislation that abolished slavery in the British Empire, the Slavery Abolition Act 1833, was not approved until 28 August 1833. Even then, the actual abolition did not come into effect until 1 August 1834. I would suggest that a reliable source is required before this line can be restored to the article.
