- August 25 - Aaliyah, contemporary R&B and pop singer, dies in a plane crash, along with several others. She died at the age of 22.
- August 6 - Dick Rehbein, in his second year as a Quarterback coach for the New England Patriots in the NFL. He died of Heart failure and was 45.
