Auckland Region Women's Corrections Facility

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Auckland Region Women's Corrections Facility (ARWCF) is a new prison (completed May 2006) in the Wiri suburb of Manukau City, Auckland, New Zealand. The facility provides 286 beds (remand and sentenced), and serves the 5% female share of the New Zealand prisoner population. It is classified as low- to medium-security, surrounded by a 6 m high fence and guarded and serviced by 187 staff.[1]

The project and its 38 buildings cost NZ$ 159 million to construct and was built substantially by Sinclair Knight Merz, located in a rehabilitated old quarry site.[2] The site has a size of 47 ha, of which 13 ha are currently covered by buildings,[1] leaving room for later expansion, which was already included in the design paramaters.[2]
