I decided to created AtyndallBot when I noticed the enormous backlog in Category:All images with the same name on Wikimedia Commons and thought that a bot would be good to assess and delete appropriate images.
I then discovered that MetsBot already has a monopoly on the assessment function (that was disheartening) and because I am a non-admin my bot would not be granted the required +sysop flag to allow image deletion.
I was planning to write a function into the bot the automatically migrates images from Wikipedia to Wikimedia Commons when appropriate but I asked the bot approval group if a bot is currently doing that already, and one is.
I'm still deciding what the bot will do but I do know a few things about it:
The bot will be written in PHP and will, hopefully, be run off the Toolserver. I do have intermediate understanding of how PHP works but will probably take several months to write the bot to a good standard.
