[edit] History

From 1997 till 2000 the station was called W1 (Wien 1, named after the capital city Vienna), later it was renamed to ATV.

Austria enacted legislation permitting and regulating private-owned television stations in 2001. ATV applied for the only available analog terestrical frequency in the whole country. ATV was allowed to start as the first private television station in Austria. After that the station was called ATV+ (ATV Plus) and went on the air on June 1, 2003.

Since 2006 the tv station is called ATV again and started transmissions by DVB-T on October 26, the national day of Austria.

Today ATV approaches up to 1 million TV-viewers every day.
