Talk:Atolls of the Maldives
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This article needs lots of work. Although purporting to show the atolls of the Maldives, in fact it shows administrative divisions of the Maldivian government. Some divisions incorporate more than one atoll and many encompass only a part of an atoll. The article stubs generated from the table are even less accurate, again purporting to provide information on each "atoll", but not so, being again administrative divisions of an archipelago. The information here is useful, but mischaracterized - Marshman 01:45, 31 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Splitting
- Suggest splitting article into two parts: geografic atolls and administrative atolls. lexa 08:32, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] How to solve the Confusion
There is a problem arising from the use of the word 'Atoll' itself. The local administrative divisions in Maldives are called 'Atolls', but are not always consisting of an atoll proper, so they should not be confused with a natural atoll. Perhaps this page should be renamed 'Administrative divisions of the Maldives' and then another rewritten page on 'Atolls of the Maldives' from a geographical and scientifical point of view should be written.
I'll try to do that when I have some more time. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Mohonu (talk • contribs) 07:02, 29 March 2007 (UTC).
[edit] Image Removed: Island in 1901
The image removed was given to me by an old photographer who died about ten years ago. His name is Baa and he was working for Ali Najeebu, Nedhunge, Male', Maldives. That Image could not have been taken by him, for it is 106 years old, and when Baa died fifteen years ago he was barely eighty. It is part of a collection of old pictures I own. Full three-quarters of the image on the lower right part were missing, so I edited it. I think it is relevant to the article, illustrating the dramatic erosion of the islands. So at least the text below the image should have been preserved.Mohonu 07:51, 8 April 2007 (UTC)
