[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Lil' JJ.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Lil' JJ.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Tempshill 21:00, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

Did I not say, "I got this image from here". --ATL Boi
That's the source, not the copyright. Additionally, don't forget a detailed fair-use rationale if the image is copyrighted. --Yamla 21:09, 12 June 2006 (UTC)
Oh, okay...wait what?! --ATL Boi
Every image you upload must have:
  1. Specific source
  2. Specific license
  3. If copyrighted, a detailed fair-use rationale.
You'll know your license of choice requires a detailed fair-use rationale because the license text makes this quite clear. Note that image copyright is a real pain in the behind to get correct. As a general rule, and contrary to popular opinion, most images that you find cannot be used on Wikipedia. Please don't feel like we are personally attacking you. --Yamla 21:20, 12 June 2006 (UTC)
That's exactly what I'm feelin' --ATL Boi
The problem is that image copyright is extremely tricky to get correct. It's not a great place to start as a new contributor. You are much better off just editing articles for a few days. You'll likely mess up there as well (external links, for example, are generally not accepted on Wikipedia), but you are likely to make fewer mistakes. Now, please don't think I'm telling you not to upload images. Just that you need to make sure you read the text of all of the links we post here when warning you. We've posted quite a number of them now so you have quite a bit of reading to do.  :) If you don't understand something and have read the appropriate posted material, please feel free to ask specific questions and we'll help you out. If you are desperately in need of help, you can post {{helpme|Reason you require help}} on this page and someone will swing by to see what they can do for you. For first offenses, you are basically never blocked. If you continue to violate some policy over and over again, you may be blocked but for a first offense, it won't be a long block. And plenty of people get blocked at one time or another. When in doubt, just make sure you are acting in good faith and don't assume people are trying to attack you even if it feels like it. Assume they are acting in good faith as well. And really, just try to enjoy your time here. The first little while, there's quite a learning curve but you'll figure everything out pretty soon. --Yamla 21:32, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] License tagging for Image:Promotional Magic.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Promotional Magic.jpg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

[edit] Are They Gay

Please refrain from adding nonsense to Wikipedia, as you did to Omarion. It is considered vandalism. If you would like to experiment, use the sandbox. --Yamla 13:56, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging Image:Ciara's setAndI.jpg

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Ciara's setAndI.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. feydey 18:40, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Copyright violation

I deleted Image:Image-Ciara4456.jpg. Although you claim it is a promotional image, it was in fact an image from the inside of a magazine. That means that your license was incorrect and also, we are not permitted to use the image. --Yamla 19:18, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

Well, is Ciara gonna have an image on her wikipedia profile thingy --ATL Boi
If we can find one that's not copyrighted, or that we can use under the terms of fair-use. Not copyrighted basically means someone on Wikipedia has to take a picture of her and release it to Wikipedia. Fair-use means it can't be an album cover or a music video capture or something. --Yamla 04:05, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
Well, can you get an image from her official website -- www.ciaraworld.com -- I'm really infatuated with Ciara and to not see her picture on here will make me feel bad. --ATL Boi
No, it would be a copyright violation to take one from the website. --Yamla 04:12, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
Then where do I get one from? --ATL Boi
Some public domain source. Or from a fan who takes a picture and releases copyright. --Yamla 21:27, 28 June 2006 (UTC)
