If I knew how to redirect, I would redirect searches for The Atlanta Compromise here. Can someone either tell me how to, or do it?--ViolinGirl 14:16, 4 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Shrinking article?

So is this version of the article better than the original which was at least twice as long? Jolomo 18:15, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

Seems the original was a bit quote-heavy. As the text of the speech is now hosted at Wikisource:Atlanta Compromise, it made sense to trim this article down a bit, to me at least.
That said, if you now find pertinent details missing, be bold and add them back in. jareha 18:37, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

Unless, I have my history wrong, although BTW's speech was a major moment in civil rights in america, it was later criticized by intellectuals such as W.E.B. DuBois for being too lenient on segregation and jim crow. it wasnt radical enough... perhaps this issue should be addressed? see DuBois, The Souls of Black Folk (1903)

[edit] Reaction

Can someone please add some information on reactions to the speech, both from back then and some contemporary analysis? Rm999 01:56, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

I'll poke around and see if there is anything that I can find. futurebird (talk)

[edit] Historical significance

This article is definitely missing the section on the Compromise of blacks in accepting Jim Crow and not pushing for Civil Rights while encouraging them to start as manual labor. Washington believed that higher education was not necessary yet, as the race had to be built up. DuBois vehemently opposed the compromise,
