Britannica's article [1] isn't too bad. It does amuse me a bit that the only line they chose to quote from the poem—where Guðrún is called "the sweet-faced delight of the shield-folk"— isn't actually in the poem. It's from a 19th century translation by William Morris [2] which seems to have "reconstructed" a line meaning "delight of the shield-folk" to fix the alliteration in stanza 36. (Or maybe the reconstruction is older than the translation, I don't feel like hunting it down right now.) Haukur 10:39, 9 March 2006 (UTC)
