The Atle was the first icebreaker of the so called Atle-class to be delievered from the Wärtsilä Shipyard. After sea trials during summer in 1974 she was delievered on 21 october. She was then crewed by personnel from the Swedish navy and on 24 october she set sail for Stockholm.
