Atlas-Imperial
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Atlas-Imperial was an American manufacturer of diesel engines. The company was founded in 1916 in Oakland, California.
Atlas Imperial engines were considered one of the most serviceable diesels ever built in the US. The company built diesels for tugboats, fishboats and coasters. With engines in a variety of sizes (2 to 8 cylinders), their diesels became common on the West Coast. Many engines that were built in the 1920s continued to run into 1951, soon after Atlas closed its doors. Today, a few hundred Atlas Imperial engines remain, with a few dozen still in operational condition.
