[edit] Store services

Despite the similarity in name to sister chain Real Canadian Superstore, not all Atlantic Superstores are necessarily hypermarkets; many are simply large supermarkets with minimal general merchandise. Others, however, are marketed as "One Stop" stores (much like Real Canadian Superstore) and carry a wide variety of goods, including groceries, electronics, housewares, clothing, and generally offer services such as photo finishing and a pharmacy.

Some larger stores (60-80,000+ square feet) also boast a community room, drive-thru pharmacy, gas bar, liquor store (operated by the applicable provincial agency), tobacco shop, as well as walk-in medical clinics. Gas bars at some locations, some of which are branded "Superstore at the Pumps" or "Refuel," offer a 3.5 cent per litre "AutoCash" coupon where provincial laws allow for this practice.

Atlantic Superstore has recently added self checkout registers at its larger stores which allow customers to scan the barcode of an item and make payment without any interaction with store employees.

[edit] Atlantic SaveEasy

Atlantic SaveEasy (often shortened to simply Save-Easy) is a chain of small retail grocery store franchises in the Atlantic Provinces of Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island.

The chain was owned by Atlantic Wholesalers Ltd. of Sackville, New Brunswick, and the first SaveEasy opened in 1959, followed by rapid expansion to quickly become the region's second-largest grocery banner, behind Sobeys.

Loblaws entered the Maritime provinces in 1976 when they purchased outstanding shares of Atlantic Wholesalers Ltd. This was followed by a period of restructuring which saw SaveEasy stores introducing Loblaw house brands such as No Name during the recession of the early 1980s, as well as updating SaveEasy's logo to match the Loblaws logo. In some instances, certain SaveEasy stores were converted from franchise-owned to corporate-owned and saw their name change to the No Frills brand during this time. There were also some larger SaveEasy stores that carried the name SaveEasy Warehouse Foods, that were typically found in shopping malls, while the normal SaveEasy stores tended to be stand-alone locations.

In 1986 the company opened its first large-scale grocery store in Moncton, New Brunswick using the name The Real Atlantic Superstore. In 1995 the name was shortened to the present one and the store designs were reformatted to the "market style".

The company underwent unprecedented changes during the 1990s when headquarters were relocated from Sackville to Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. New warehousing facilities for just in time logistics distribution were built, along with a huge expansion campaign which brought new large-format stores to many centres in the region within a period of only several years.

Most SaveEasy stores in urban areas were closed or converted to the larger Atlantic SuperValu or the mega-size Atlantic Superstore concepts; with the remaining Atlantic SaveEasy stores redesigned.

The Atlantic SaveEasy name, with a few exceptions, is now usually found in small towns and rural areas while the Atlantic SuperValu brand has largely disappeared as the company standardized its brands.

Some SaveEasy stores (such as Nantucket Ave in Dartmouth) have elements of the Provigo brand. The "P" in the logo is simply changed to an "S", and the store is advertised with an English translation of the Provigo slogan; "So quick, So good!".
