In the classification of African languages, Atlantic-Congo is an early branch of the Niger-Congo phylum. Atlantic-Congo comprises the Atlantic languages and all other Niger-Congo branches except Mande and Kordofanian, which are believed to have split off even earlier than Atlantic. The biggest subordinate branch (in terms of number of languages) is Volta-Congo; the other branches of Atlantic-Congo are Dogon and Ijoid. Mukarovsky's West-Nigritic roughly corresponds to Atlantic-Congo.
