[edit] Editing Wikipedia
Regarding the addition of copyrighted material to Adi Shankara from http://www.kamakoti.org/peeth/aboutpeetham.html (this seems like deja vu all over again......):
Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. We appreciate your contributions, but for legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted.
Feel free to re-submit a new version of the article. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.
If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must include on the external site the statement "I, (name), am the author of this article, (article name), and I irrevocably release its content under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 and later, for use on Wikipedia and elsewhere."
You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here. You can also leave a message on my talk page. ॐ Priyanath 22:21, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
== Removing Choiza Vellalar Hi, Its inappropriate to remove the Chozia Vellalar info from the Sholiar article, Chozia Vellalar are also Sholiyars, If you want to keep only the info about Sholia Anthanars you can create a seperate article with that title. So Discuss before removing the same. Regards --Anand Ramkumar.S (talk) 07:00, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Sholiyar article
Hello friend, and welcome to Wikipedia. Since Wikipedia articles are a cooperative effort, a tag like the one I put on the Sholiyar article alerts other editors that there is an article that they might be interested in contributing to. I could see that the article needed serious editing - for language, spelling, content, and grammar. Since I'm not familiar with the subject, the tag was simply a way of putting out a call for other editors. Another editor has already begun cleaning up part of the article, so you can see a good example of the tag producing good results.
I did remove a section that was a clear Copyright Violation. Please, read this page carefully: WP:COPYVIO. When there is a violation of another person's copyrights - either with a photo, or text, taken from a website or other source - that is a copyright infringement. Wikipedia policy is that obvious copyright violations should be removed immediately. You've been adding text copied from other websites for other articles. Those sections have been removed. You shouldn't do that - when you do, it will be removed again. As tempting and as easy it is to just copy and paste from other websites, that's not how Wikipedia articles are written.
From the page WP:COPYVIO:
"Never use materials that infringe the copyrights of others. This could create legal liabilities and seriously hurt the project. If in doubt, write it yourself.
"Note that copyright law governs the creative expression of ideas, not the ideas or information themselves. Therefore, it is legal to read an encyclopedia article or other work, reformulate the concepts in your own words, and submit it to Wikipedia. However, it would still be unethical (but not illegal) to do so without citing the original as a reference. See plagiarism and fair use for discussions of how much reformulation is necessary in a general context."
When you add comments on other users talk pages, always make sure you are logged in under your username, and then sign your comment with the four tildes. See: WP:SIG.
Also, please read all the links given at the top of this page, starting with The five pillars of Wikipedia You'll find that there's alot of helpful information about editing Wikipedia and discussing with other editors. Cheers, and good luck with editing on Wikipedia. ॐ Priyanath 19:25, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Bhagavannama Bodhendra
This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have perfomed a web search with the contents of Bhagavannama Bodhendra, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://www.geocities.com/parasu41/Some_Great_Devotees/bodhendra_saraswati.html. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences.
This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot 13:34, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Copyright status of Bhagavannama Bodhendra Saraswathi
Please do not post copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder, as you did to Bhagavannama Bodhendra Saraswathi. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites (http://www.vittaldas.com/SriBodhendral.html in this case) or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) then you should do one of the following:
-
- If you have permission from the author leave a message explaining the details on the article Talk page and send an email with the message to "permissions-en (at) wikimedia (dot) org". See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
- If a note on the original website states that re-use is permitted under the GFDL or released into the public domain leave a note at Talk:Bhagavannama Bodhendra Saraswathi with a link to where we can find that note;
- If you own the copyright to the material: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en(at)wikimedia(dot)org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the GFDL, and note that you have done so on the article Talk page. Alternatively, you may create a note on your web page releasing the work under the GFDL and then leave a note at Talk:Bhagavannama Bodhendra Saraswathi with a link to the details.
Otherwise, you are encouraged to rewrite this article in your own words to avoid any copyright infringement.
It is also important that all Wikipedia articles have an encyclopedic tone and follow Wikipedia article layout. For more information on Wikipedia's policies, see Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If you want to edit constructively, take a look at the welcome page. Thank you. -- lucasbfr talk 18:43, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Notability of Nambiyar
Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Nambiyar, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Nambiyar seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Nambiyar, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. [edit] Speedy deletion of Sholiyarkal
A tag has been placed on Sholiyarkal, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to have no meaningful content or history, and the text is unsalvageably incoherent. If the page you created was a test, please use the sandbox for any other experiments you would like to do. Feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you have any questions about this.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. - See Talk:Sholiyarkal. It seems sensible to a Hindu Indian; but many of the Hindu words in it need to be explained. For example, in "They Broadly divided into Choliya Iyers, Choliya Iyengars and Choliya Vellalars.", what is a Iyer? Best explain, so people do not confuse it with the English word "liar". Welcome. I noticed that you recently created articles Tirupperunturai and Avadaiyarkoil with identical content. Please do not create duplicate articles on Wikipedia. [edit] Hi
Hi, I observed that you've recreated the Sholiyar page. Let me tell you one thing - regardless of who you are, Vyaghradhataki or Athma Iyer, Wikipedia is not the place to publicize your community or indulge in promotion of the community you belong to. Please add reliable references from books and published material, if possible, from links on the internet. And then, you are welcome to contribute if you are desirous of contributing useful worthwhile pieces of information. Well, it is true that the Sholiyars form an insignificant minority in Tamil Nadu. But that is not reason enough to indulge in promotion of your community. Wikipedia is not a memorial. If you want to bring the plight of Sholiyars to public notice, I advice you to create a website on the net for that purpose. Kindly have a look at what Wikipedia is not. Thanks-RavichandarMy coffee shop 01:31, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
