[edit] More empty categories by Buaidh

In re: categories created by user Buaidh (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · block user · block log).

Howdy, thanks for deleting Category:WikiProject Washington articles (which I think was not only empty but misnamed). The same user created a whole slew of empty categories, but I'm not as sure about deleting these. I wanted to ask the user, but I wasn't sure how to phrase it. Basically, I'm not sure how clear it is that they need to be deleted. Should I nominate them all and warn him, should I just ask him out of curiosity, or should I warn him that they might be nominated for speedy?

Here are the categories:

  • Category:WikiProject Alaska members
  • Category:WikiProject California members
  • Category:WikiProject Delaware members
  • Category:WikiProject Hawaii members
  • Category:WikiProject Idaho members
  • Category:WikiProject Illinois members
  • Category:WikiProject Iowa members
  • Category:WikiProject Maryland members
  • Category:WikiProject Massachusetts members
  • Category:WikiProject Minnesota members
  • Category:WikiProject Missouri members
  • Category:WikiProject Nebraska members
  • Category:WikiProject Nevada members
  • Category:WikiProject New Hampshire members
  • Category:WikiProject New Jersey members
  • Category:WikiProject New Mexico members
  • Category:WikiProject North Carolina members
  • Category:WikiProject North Dakota members
  • Category:WikiProject Ohio members
  • Category:WikiProject Oklahoma members
  • Category:WikiProject Pennsylvania members
  • Category:WikiProject South Carolina members
  • Category:WikiProject Texas members

Thanks, JackSchmidt (talk) 00:26, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

I wondered about that myself, and almost undeleted the category. I checked the history, though, and Buaidh had removed it from other categories before the CSD nom, so I left it deleted.
Generally, WikiProject members are listed on WikiProject pages, not in categories. My opinion is that the member categories are eligible for deletion, but perhaps the question should be asked on some of the WikiProject talk pages. — Athaenara 00:40, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
Afterthought:
Maybe User categories for discussion is the best place to ask. — Athaenara 00:44, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
I created the deletion discussion but did not tag the categories themselves until it looks more like the categories might be deleted but that someone might want them kept (i.e. something other than instant consensus). JackSchmidt (talk) 17:34, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
Well that went smoothly and quickly. Buaidh said it was just a mistake, please delete them. I did a non-admin closure of the UCFD and marked all of them {{db-c1}} with a link back to the UCFD. If you are familiar with xfd closing (and are feeling generous), could you check if my closure was kosher? It feels silly being so short, but it definitely seemed like the clear decision: the creator wanted them deleted and (before I mentioned them at ucfd) they clearly met the letter of the law for C1. Thanks for all the help. JackSchmidt (talk) 18:04, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
You are welcome, and well done! — Athaenara 23:11, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Issue with page deletion:Ulteo

In re: deletion of Ulteo and Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2008 June 8#Ulteo.

It seems that you have deleted all the work I did to write a documented and Wikipedia-compliant article about Ulteo. If you think that Ulteo is not notorious, just look for it on Google and see the number of pages about it. If you think my post was a repost of the previous Ulteo page, you are wrong: it was written from scratch and took me hours to search for information and references.

So please get the Ulteo page, I think there is no reason to delete it.

Sorry if it's not the good place to discuss but I don't see any other way to get in touch.

Getupstandup1 (talk) 10:55, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

I recommend Deletion review. — Athaenara 11:20, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
Ulteo deletion follow-up
As requested by yourself... Deletion review for Ulteo
An editor has asked for a deletion review of Ulteo. Since you closed the deletion discussion for this article, speedy-deleted it, or were otherwise interested in the article, you might want to participate in the deletion review. Getupstandup1 (talk) 23:02, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the note; I commented there (diff). — Athaenara 07:32, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Marriott ExecuStay

In re: deletion of Marriott ExecuStay.

This one's back again. Not sure it qualifies for speedy this time though. Your thoughts? Thanks. – ukexpat (talk) 14:46, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

It could be taken to Afd, and might be kept [or not]. — Athaenara 23:13, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
By the way, I borrowed the Status templates and created my own with the credit given to User:Misza13, as you did, noting that I found it on your talk page. — Athaenara 05:14, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] My RfA

Hello, Athaenara, and thank you for your recent participation in my RfA, which was closed per WP:NOTNOW after reaching a vote tally of 5/15/2. While I am disappointed in the outcome, I understand that it - as well as the comments left by yourself and others - was in the best interests of Wikipedia at this time. I plan to take everything that was written to heart and improve myself here on Wikipedia with a goal of perhaps accepting a nomination again in the future, should someone choose to nominate me. As a way of gathering further feedback, I have created a page in my user space for other editors to leave comments about things that they might have observed during my RfA and to continue my "education process," as it may be considered. If you would like to contribute to that page, it may be found here. Again, thank you for participating and I appreciate your comments! --InDeBiz1 (talk) 17:55, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Third opinion project

[edit] Thank you

Just wanted to say thanks for your comment at Talk:Homeschooling‎#Problems with "Child Abuse" section. It was my first attempt at a third opinion, and I may have been out of line, but I do appreciate the assistance. Jim Miller (talk) 03:27, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

You are welcome! Your contribution there was a model of dispassionate, neutral, and thorough analysis, I think, and I'm glad to see you with the project. — Athaenara 03:30, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Unblock requests

Blocking of Oberiko

In re: my decline of an unblock request by Oberiko (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · block user · block log).

Hi Athaenara. I would like to request that you kindly unblock Oberiko. His work on the article World War II has been ongoing for months, subject to the Military History Project and discussed in talk, having gained relatively wide consensus among the project members. This may seem like ownership, however on complex articles like this it really does require a single editor to coordinate all the input. Flying tiger had not participated in significant discussion in talk, or attempted to following 2 reverts. I can assure you the project has capable admins as part of its organisation who are well able to deal with edit conflicts and institute blocks should hey be required. rewinn's block

In re: my decline of an unblock request by Rewinn (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · block user · block log).
See also: Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#user vandalizing article by removing an image from it.

Please look into that block more. I have commented at the AN/I thread, and strongly feel that the 'even blocks for uneven behavior' is a poor response. It's clear from that article's talk, and the edit history, that Rewinn made far more effort than needed in dealing with CA, who had clear opposition from numerous editors for his edits. While Rewinn could've better used the WP:AN/3RR/AIV pages than he did, it's not like it's two random editors butting heads with no effort to solve an issue. Rewinn clearly made a large effort, appealing for patience, discussing at length, and so on. CA's responses are almost exclusively of the 'i'm right, you're wrong' variety, which almost always pisses off other editors. Look at the history and such, rewinn's patience is admirable, not criminal simply because it eventually wore out. Please reconsider and unblock. ThuranX (talk) 06:04, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

To both mrg3105 and ThuranX
Understood. As a matter of good practice, I watch user talk pages for a few days after I have either accepted or declined an unblock request. As you may know, a blocked user whose request to be unblocked has been declined may again request an unblock.
To keep discussions centralised, please post your detailed concerns on the blocked user's talk page where the issues are being discussed. Thank you. — Athaenara 06:26, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
That's a polite 'No, I'm right and won't reconsider. ' Understood, and good day. ThuranX (talk) 06:28, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
No, it's more along the lines of a polite "mine isn't the only mop on this encyclopedia and my user talk page is not the most central location for discussions of specific unblock requests" message. Please assume good faith here as well. — Athaenara 06:35, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
Your mop, your responsibility when wielding it. As for discussions, I'm not centralizing ALL unblock discussions, just those you undertook. and only ONE of those. But to get two such notes in a one minute span? Perhaps you should be reexamining. ThuranX (talk) 06:40, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Thank You

Thank you for your comments in my RFA. I will do my best to address the concerns, and I will try to help out with the hooks on WP:DYK, cause I know it's kind of frustrating for me when I hardly get any comments up until the last day. Hehe. Thanks again. :D <3 Tinkleheimer TALK!! 21:19, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
