Athalye (आठल्ये) is an Indian family name from the Kokanastha Brahman (कोकणस्थ ब्राह्मण) community that originates in the villagse of Dewala and Shiposhi in the Ratnagiri, Maharashtra state of India. The name is especially common in the south and wester regions of the state and individuals with the surname are Karhade Brahmins. The name is derived from the word of the same spelling, meaning pandit. The surname Athale is an indicator that the person is a Hindu Brahmin.
In the Deccan Plateau are of India, the Marathi people from the Konkan area have the name Athale with the same meaning and origins.
