Talk:ATCast

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

We feel that a speedy deletion of this page is not justified.

For one, ATCast is produced by an educational institution.

Secondly, it is free for anyone who wishes to view it. iTunes University content is free for anyone to download, and iTunes itself is free. The series can also be viewed for free on SATCA's website.

Thirdly, there are thousands of articles on Wikipedia that describe television shows or movies, and we do not feel that this brief page on an educational video series is fundamentally different from any one of those articles. If this article on ATCast is found to be a promotion or advertisement, then we feel any article discussing a television show, movie, or corporation should also be deleted. Furthermore, the University of North Dakota itself has a Wikipedia entry, which describes the school and related academic programs. Is this a promotion or advertisement that violates Wikipedia's rules as well?

This claim that the ATCast article should be deleted is clearly unwarranted and ridiculous and we hope the editors at Wikipedia will consider our arguments when considering its deletion.

third party published reliable sources, print or online (but not blogs), any language

As the reviewing administrator, I declined to delete this because it does assert at least some importance. But the criterion for inclusion is not that something be noncommercial, or that it be free to view--for example, all of YouTube & similar sites is free to view, and the vast majority is noncommercial, and almost none of it is significant. Online courses in general are not significant for an encyclopedia, any more than conventional courses are. A few may be well known enough to be written about, and thus be included. The criterion is that it be notable enough to warrant inclusion in an encyclopedia. I am not sure this is--at least, the mere description of the series does not give enough evidence for it. You need to show by third party published reliable sources, print or online (but not blogs), that it is noteworthy. Articles or reviews in educational magazines, for example. It may well be deleted by the ordinary way unless you can do this. You may also want to check WP:COI. DGG (talk) 14:35, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
