ATCast

ATCast is an educational video series produced by the Aerospace Network at the University of North Dakota. It focuses on Air Traffic Control, and is produced in conjunction with the Air Traffic Control department of the John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences and the Student Air Traffic Controller Association (SATCA).

The series is designed to highlight subjects that are taught in the classroom and training simulators at UND, to explore topics contained in FAA Order 7110.65, Air Traffic Control7110.65 by providing visual and audio examples from UND's simulators, and to educate students on historical and technical background of various aviation-related topics. Although tailored to UND, the subjects covered in each episode are accessible and valuable to any aviation student at any school, or to anyone interested in pursuing a career in aviation or air traffic control.

The series was launched in 2007 and is currently available for free download on iTunes UND and can be viewed for free on SATCA's website Student Air Traffic Controller Association.

Radar Identification Methods (2007): Covers the six FAA-mandated radar identification methods.

Radar Wake Turbulence Separation (2008): Explains what wake turbulence is, how it is formed, and what radar separation is mandated in the 7110.65

Introduction to Radar (2008): Provides a brief overview of the history of radar technology and how it is used in the ATC world.

Merging Target Procedures (2008): Describes what merging targets are and how to issue traffic calls.

ILS Approaches (2008-coming soon): Details what an ILS is, how to issue the approach clearance, and what happens in the cockpit during the approach. Localizer backcourse approaches are also discussed.


UND Aerospace
