[edit] Instructions for use

Please use it:

Please don't use it:

  • On character or organisation pages. Use the {{ASUE character}} or {{ASUE organisation}} for that.

--Celestianpower talk 12:59, 19 July 2005 (UTC)

If it makes sense (and if the template isn't switched back to the sidebar), please change the instructions to the following :
Please use it :
  • At the very bottom of any pages strongly-related to A Series of Unfortunate Events.
  • Don't forget to also use {{ASUE character}} or {{ASUE organisation}} at the top of character or organization articles.
— 131.230.133.186 14:00, 2 October 2005 (UTC)
Please don't use it:
May I add that it shouldn't be used on locations, objects, etc.? It seems to me that they fall into the same sort of criterion as {{ASUE character}} and {{ASUE organisation}}.

[edit] Change the template

There is a proposed template here: template:ASUE/proposed. Do you think that we should swap these over and disconytinue this one. I prefer this side-bar personally but if consensus is to change it then That's fine aswell. --Celestianpower hab 14:21, 22 August 2005 (UTC)

Putting {{ASUE/proposed}} in articles is not recommended, as it looks sloppy having temporary templates and using something called "proposed" in an article. In the future, please put proposals here (just paste them) or just be bold and make the change anyway, so that admins don't have to waste time deleting temporary templates. As for your suggested change, I personally like some of your changes and wouldn't mind you changing this.
Also, sidebars are used for fill-in-the-blanks style things about the subject of the article and not about the general category, as with the sidebar in Hermione Granger — 131.230.133.186 10:56, 2 October 2005 (UTC)
Well, if you don't want a sidebar then can we please use the one at /proposed because the one you made, in my opinion, is ugly with too much whitespace and too many lines. --Celestianpower hablamé 13:03, 2 October 2005 (UTC)
That would be fine. — 131.230.133.186 13:05, 2 October 2005 (UTC)

The template is becoming rather bloated. I've put a couple of solutions on my test page, User:Smurrayinchester/Template, but I think the best option is to set the box up as nav-box; we'll lose the formatting, but the user can show or hide the box as necessary. smurrayinchester(User), (Ho Ho Ho!) 20:26, 22 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Mr. Poe - central?

Why is Poe listed as a central character? I'll admit he was a recurring character in books 1 to 7, but disappeared until a short appearance in 11 and 12. Aside from the whole Villain/Volunteer speculation, there isn't much importance around him. Surely the Hook-Handed Man is more "central" than Poe? Squidward2602 21:26, 2 January 2006 (UTC) i agree klaus12

He was quite important in books 1 to 7, and additional information in Lemony Snicket: The Unauthorised Autobiography shows that he is still an important figure. Perhaps he could be moved to other characters though. smurrayinchester(User), (Talk) 10:32, 3 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Sugar Bowl

I think that the sugar bowl should be put in the list of other links, because it is a main plot element. True, there is not much known about why it is important, but I had to search to find information on it. ~~[[User:Flamedude|Flamedude]] 21:41, 17 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] 13 Shocking Secrets & The Dismal Dinner

May I query the entries of these? 13 Shocking Secrets, quite apart from having an incorrect article name (there is no "That" in the actual name of the document, and the capitalisation is different), distorts the Accompanying Books section with the length of its name. Perhaps it could simply be moved to "13 Shocking Secrets," or merged with the article on Lemony Snicket? Plus there's the fact that it's not really a book, it's a booklet (and since I've not actually ever seen or heard reports of a physical offline version, it's more of a document). I've suggested solutions to the fact that it's not a book below when dealing with The Dismal Dinner.

The Dismal Dinner wasn't a book, it was more of a set of four little cardboard cut-outs on the back of Lunchables. However, I don't see where else to put it if we keep the article on it, unless we decide to merge it with the main ASOUE article or perhaps with 13 Shocking Secrets into some kind of "Promotional booklets" section or something. Or we could label "Accompanying Books" as "Accompanying Materials" or something of that nature.

I also recognise that some of my queries would be better suited to the Discussion pages of those actual articles, but it seems like nobody ever reads those (will The Beatrice Letters, for example, ever be adorned with the updated cover? Or The Puzzling Puzzles be moved to an accurate article name?).

Thoughts?

[edit] Diverge the Other Section

The other section isn't really needed. Prospero and Queequeg could go into places, the film and video game are big enough ideas they could go to the top, and everything else pretty much could go into a V.F.D. section.-Pacaman 01:21, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

Well, I went aheadand changed it, since nobody opposed it.Pacaman 20:16, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Characters

What's the basis for deciding if somebody is a secondary or minor character? It seems odd that Jacques would have secondary status when he had only a brief cameo in book the 7th, and the circus freaks have minor status, even though they were major characters in book the 9th and had recurring roles in 10-12. Pacaman 22:13, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Worst template I'd seen here so far

Please make the microscopic font readable, the big bold font normal and turn the template hidden by default. The humankind will be thankful forever. Pavel Vozenilek 02:28, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

There's absolutely nothing wrong with this template. Perhaps you're thinking of this template or this template? They're the worst templates in the world, ever. TheMadBaron 10:11, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Callapsibilty

I made the added the hide option to the template because it is pretty big. --Pacaman! 17:42, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Boats=places?

Should the link to the list of boats go under the "places" category? They're not really places, right? Everyoneandeveryone 20:25, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

Many events happen on boats/submarines throughout the series, especially in The Grim Grotto. <3Clamster 01:43, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
