Astronomy Cast is an educational nonprofit podcast discussing various topics in the field of astronomy. It is labeled as "a facts based journey through the cosmos" that helps the listener understand not only what is known about astronomy, but also how it is known. It is co-hosted by Universe Today editor Fraser Cain and Dr. Pamela L. Gay and premiered on September 10, 2006. The subject matter varies with each weekly episode.
Astronomy Cast has also experimented with "question shows" where they have sent recording equipment to grade schools who have requested it. The students have recorded questions to ask the hosts, which are then answered and edited into a special podcast. Several podcasts in this format have been done, with some success, and it remains an ongoing project.
The Astronomy Cast website also hosts the blog Astronomy Cast LIVE. It covers select astronomy meetings using various bloggers, including Fraser Cain, Dr. Pamela L. Gay and Phil Plait.
