Astronautalis (born Andy Bothwell) is an American hip hop artist based out of Jacksonville, Florida[1].

After gaining some renown in local circles in Jacksonville and competing at Scribble Jam, he self-released his debut album, You and Yer Good Ideas, in 2003. After signing with Fighting Records, it was re-released on July 12, 2005, followed by his second album, The Mighty Ocean and Nine Dark Theaters, in 2006. As of May 2008, a new album is in the works[2].

He has toured across the country[3], and is known to party with fans. He has a brother living in China (his "China!" EP was released to raise money for a plane ticket to visit him).

He has been described as "if Beck were a decade or so younger and had grown up more heavily immersed in hip-hop,"[4] with his rapping style noted for "blending styles of indie rock, electro, and talkin’ blues"[5] with hip-hop, although his second album showed a turn towards a style close to shoegazer rock[6].
