Astral character

Astral characters are Unicode characters that are not part of the Basic Multilingual Plane (that is, characters whose code point is above U+FFFF). In the context of Unicode, the term “astral plane” is informally used to refer to the supplementary planes above the Basic Multilingual Plane.
