Astara is an esoteric non-profit religious institution and publishing organization based on the western mystery tradition. Astara was founded in 1951 by Earlyne and Robert Chaney, where administration has since passed to their daughter Sita. Its headquarters are located in Rancho Cucamonga, California.
Astara currently has members in over 85 countries. [1] Astara holds services and events at its main chapel, however most members relate to Astara through a set of correspondence lessons called the Book of Life, divided into eight Degrees of 22 lessons each. Astara's teachings are eclectic, and primarily draw on sources from Spiritualism, Theosophy, yoga, and Ancient Egypt.
