ASRock Inc. produces motherboards, mainly for the budget-mainstream sector. It was started in 2002 in Taiwan as a subsidiary of ASUS.
In the beginning, they were mainly known for producing low-cost OEM solutions based on less expensive outdated chipsets. This turned out to be quite successful because of their price and reliability. Since then ASRock has evolved into producing creative value-oriented solutions, often with an eye on multiple compatibility. They have been producing motherboards with both Socket 478 and Socket LGA775 support, with both Socket 754 and Socket 939 support, and more recently Socket AM2 with both AGP and PCI Express support, as well as boards with Future CPU Ports that allow the installation of a card with a future CPU socket and memory interface on it. In addition, recently ASrock have been producing motherboards with relatively up-to-date chipsets, like the AMD 780G chipset (part of AMD 700 chipset series), Intel P965, G35 etc.
[edit] Awards
Due to improved reliability and functionality, the company has been gaining reputation. In fact, the company has won many awards for their creative products from OCworkbench, PC magazine, AnandTech etc.
Currently ASRock is popular for its relatively low-cost Core 2 Duo based on Socket 775, Athlon X2, and AMD Phenom based on Socket AM2 motherboards.
[edit] Products and latest technologies
Recently, ASrock has been introducing technologies that would only be linked to high-end motherboard manufacturers. Some of their creative products include:
- WiFi + AP (Access Point) with antenna (i.e. 4Core1600P35-WiFi+)
- Durable solid capacitors on selected motherboards (i.e. 4Core1600P35-WiFi+)
- Support for nVidia Hybrid SLI technology (i.e. K10N78FullHD-hSLI R3.0)
- Support for latest AMD and Intel Processors, Chipsets, fabrication technology (i.e. 45nm)
- Support for latest AMD's graphics group (ATI Technologies), and nVidia chipsets etc.
