The Asia Institute at the Solbridge International School of Business is a research center that encourages international collaboration with regards to the challenges of environmental degradation in East Asia, the promise and threat of technological change and international relations in East Asia today. There are also programs concerning finance, marketing and logistics covered by the Asia Institute.
The director of the Asia Institute, Emanuel Pastreich, has taught at University of Illinois and George Washington University previously. Pastreich also serves as advisor to the governor of Chungnam Province, for foreign relations. As the first non-Korean ever appointed to this position, Pastreich is deeply involved in recruiting foreign direct investment, promoting tourism, introducing abroad Chungnam’s agricultural products and planning for a multicultural future for the region.
The Asia Institute runs the Daejeon Ecology Forum, a gathering of researchers in Korea to discuss strategies for responding to environmental issues in Korea.
