[edit] History

Founded in 1955 as the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS), the organization officially changed its name in 2002 to ASIS International. This new name better reflected the growth and expansion of the society into the largest international organization for security professionals, covering a wide array of services and specialties within the security industry. ASIS is dedicated to increasing the effectiveness and productivity of security professionals around the world by providing standardized certification, ongoing learning seminars and required RE-Certifications.

The Professional Certification Board (PCB) was established by ASIS to elevate the professional standing of the security profession and improve the practice of security through testing and certification of individuals meeting prescribed eligibility standards. All PCB members, including the President, are appointed by the President of ASIS. PCB members serve on the board for a maximum of three two-year terms. The president of the PCB serves a single one-year term.
