See this deleteion debate to comment on why the article is needed on Wikipedia. I believe it doesn't meet our notability guidelines - however vague they are on brand name products - but feel free to put as case forward. [edit] User space

One strategy - and this has plusses and minuses -- is to create articles in your user space, and then move them into Wiki space when they're ready. Even so, I can the person's point about not allowing separate articles for individual products, you can imagine how advertising agencies and companies would love to get articles on their products into Wikipedia.... Perhaps just one long article on the inventor, or if that's too long, perhaps one article on the inventor and one article on all his inventions combined... Herostratus 00:29, 14 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging for Image:W200.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:W200.gif. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

[edit] Image Tagging Image:W172.gif

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:W172.gif. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. bluemask 19:02, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Xle pic.gif. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. [edit] License tagging for Image:GE Example0.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:GE Example0.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

[edit] re Google SketchUp 3D Text

Hi Ashleyjoyce. I can see that you put a lot of work into this article. However, as an encyclopedia we can't really get into this level of detail, we are specifically WP:NOT a source for how-to manuals. Geez, I hate to do this, but I'm going to have to put this up for deletion, rules are rules. I hope you don't find this discouraging. Lots of editors lose articles this way. Anyway, it has five days to live, in case you want to save the text or if you want to recast it as a shorter, descriptive, article. Herostratus 07:27, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

Herostratus: I understand your point about How-to-Manuals. maybe its a bit long. I was trying to make it visual (the reason for so many pictures)... so readers could see how easy it is to create 3D text for google earth. I will recasrt it as a shorter descriptive, article in the next few days. Ashleyjoyce 07:54, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

  • If you use the Wikipedia:Image tutorial to downsize how the images are displayed in the article, Wikibooks may be interested (they DO accept how to manuals), but you'd need to release the images under a free license - Wikipedia only (or Wikibooks only) images will get deleted according to our copyright policy. - Mgm|(talk) 08:38, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

Guys: I've taken all your suggestions onboard and have totally rewritten the article and removed the tutorial to the suwiki website with a link to it. I think it works alot better now. Any comments welcome. Ashleyjoyce 00:12, 23 September 2006 (UTC)

Yes it's looking better. I do want to warn you, though, that we software programs have to be notable for it to rate an article, which basically means meeting the requirements at WP:SOFTWARE. If not, somebody will probably come along sooner or later and nominate if for deletion. Herostratus 17:44, 23 September 2006 (UTC)

Hi ! 1. Can you please send me a link to GE Chess? 2. Would you be so nice and vote in the chess article discussion page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Chess)in favor of ichessu.com (first real international chess university) link?

Thanks in advance

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Bowin chequered flag.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Bowin chequered flag.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 18:13, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image:A189.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:A189.gif. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast 22:27, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:3dchart_sle.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:3dchart_sle.gif. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 06:14, 7 July 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MER-C 06:14, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
