[edit] Speedy deletion
I think this is a good article, not one for deletion. —Preceding unsigned comment added by GowsiPowsi (talk • contribs) 23:05, 1 February 2008
GowsiPowsi, if you want to argue in favor of retention of this article, to not have it speedily deleted, you will not win by having the discussion here on the article’s own TalkPage. The discussion for deleting is occuring at the page that has been specially set up to discuss the matter: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ashley West. Go there and make your case. By the way, I think that the recent improvements to the article might help get it retained, especially if you can make any more such improvements. — SpikeToronto (talk) 02:40, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Fred Hoyle
Where is the proof that he is related to Fred Hoyle. DavidJJJ (talk) 17:39, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
I've deleted that, DavidJJJ. (GowsiPowsi (talk) 16:07, 3 February 2008 (UTC))
[edit] References
I have added a bit taken from an article that West published in in-between magazine regarding the observing of art. However, this wikiarticle still needs additional outside references that are not from West’s own website or articles and books penned by West. Of the other users who have been editing this page and actually live in the U.K., do you have any independent stuff you can add? For example, a review of an exhibition might be very useful. — SpikeToronto (talk) 09:50, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
www.creeksideopen.org/Downloads/a_west_cv&statement_cox2.doc what about using this. DavidJJJ (talk) 12:25, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
Seems like a sound reference to me. (GowsiPowsi (talk) 16:08, 3 February 2008 (UTC))
You’re missing my point. One can put in as much stuff by Mr. West as one wants. And, there’s probably nothing wrong with using his C.V. and bio, as written by him (so long as he “releases” copyright over it). But, just because a write-up is found on a website other than Mr. West’s own website — for instance, the item that your link [1] leads to — if it was still written by him, it’s not third-party. And, in this case, Mr. West provided that write-up to the Creekside Open competition and they placed it on their website: It was not written by anyone other than Mr. West. The complaint by those who want this wikiarticle deleted is that the wikiarticle is not independent enough. We need to make it more so. What is needed to make this wikiarticle seem more legitimate, is stuff written by someone other than Mr. West, something written about him, not by him. Remember, I do not want this article deleted; so, I’m just trying to ensure that it gets to stay. Perhaps the artist himself has some clippings (cuttings) out of which one can tease independent perspectives, and perhaps he could provide a wikieditor with copies for such use … — SpikeToronto (talk) 04:33, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
I have added a ONE SOURCE tag as the arcticle relies largely, although not entirely, on one source. The article needs to have an independent source such as a review, etc., of one (or more) of West’s work/shows/exhibitions, that was published in any newspaper, arts journal, etc. — SpikeToronto (talk) 00:36, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Guest Lecturer
I’m not sure that the sentence, “Recently, West was a guest lecturer at the Department of Art History in Illinois,” is correct. I too came across this while doing a Google search. However, one notices that the title of the lecture is “Antiquity and the Art of Hans Burgkmair (1473-1531): Between Allegory and Authenticity.”[2] This does not seem to jibe with the area of expertise of the Ashley West who resides in Kettering, U.K. Also, the Chicago lecture is not listed in Mr. West’s curriculum vitae at either his official website,[3] or on the website of the Creekside Open competition,[4] which appears to have his more recent CV. About this, I could, of course, be 100% wrong. Therefore, is it possible to confirm that the Ashley West who gave this lecture is the same Ashley West that is the topic of this wikiarticle? — SpikeToronto (talk) 05:00, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
Although I cannot prove it, I know through mutual aquaintances that he took a degree in art history, so it's very possible he took that lecture. (GowsiPowsi (talk) 11:02, 10 February 2008 (UTC))
Oh, come on, GowsiPowsi, I love your enthusiastic defence of this page, which is why I have also defended it and made edits to it. But seriously, “he took a degree in art history, so it's very possible he took that lecture,” [emphasis added] is not really what Wikipedia means by verifiability. You’re liable to incur appropriate tags for improvement. Plus, if you have mutual acquaintances, you can get this verified by him, through them. Moreover, if Mr. West gave this lecture, he would have put it in his curriculum vitae: It would be an impressive addition. Finally, if you have mutual acqaintances, why not see if, through them, you can get some clippings (er, “cuttings”, I think) from Mr. West that review some of his exhibitions/work that can then be included in this article. Such items would be independent of Mr. West and satisfy the criticism that this aritcle has drawn. — SpikeToronto (talk) 22:28, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
Until guest lecture is verified, I have added CITE CHECK tag to the article. In the meantime, I have written to the contact at the Department of Art History at the University of Chicago to determine if the person who gave the lecture was the same Ashley West in this article. If anyone tries to delete this article in the meantime, we can try a HANG ON tag to stop the deletion. — SpikeToronto (talk) 23:58, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
I received an e-mail from the contact at the Department of Art History at the University of Chicago regarding the lecture that was given, entitled, “Antiquity and the Art of Hans Burgkmair (1473-1531): Between Allegory and Authenticity.” It reads:
While being certainly one of the briefest e-mails I have ever received, it was to the point. (The only thing I have left out is personal information of the correspondents. I could not figure out how to redact out personal information and then reproduce the e-mail here.) Under the circumstances, I have removed the statement that Mr. West gave that lecture, the accompanying references, and the Cite-check tag. — SpikeToronto (talk) 06:38, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Group Exhibitions
I was going to add the five additional group exhibitions that are found here to the article, but there are no dates. Any ideas how to figure out what the dates of the showings were? — SpikeToronto (talk) 04:49, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
