Ashmore is a suburb on the Gold Coast. The area's name derives from a locality or family property in England. Also a local thoroughfare with residents travelling from Benowa Rd to Nerang Rd, the suburb was officially perpetuated in 1976 when a housing estate was developed in the area called Ashmore Village.

[edit] Shopping
Ashmore plaza, located on Cotlew St is the most common place for locals to do their shopping. The plaza has undergone many face lifts over the last 10 years, including converting from Food for Less to Woolworths.
There is a Hungry Jacks, Pizza Hut and Red Rooster opposite the Plaza and the Ashmore Tavern is a popular drinking spot which offers TAB and pokies.
Locals enjoy the 1970s aesthetics and atmosphere of shopping at the Plaza. There are also the options of Ashmore City and Southport Park down the road.
Pre-clearing, the vegetation of Ashmore included substantial areas of Blackbutt (Eucalyptus pilularis) tall open forest on lowland metamorphosed sediments. This ecosystem type is now listed as endangered with extinction in Queensland having been extensively cleared for agriculture and housing development.
[edit] Sporting
Behind Ashmore Plaza is the Southport Warriors football club. They cater for the junior and senior soccor players and the automatic sprinkler system will go off at around 11pm on a Thursday night on the oval.
[edit] Transport
The number 18 and 18A will occasionally pass though Ashmore on its way to Southport. Buses run every 2 hours on a Sunday and usually every 45 mins on a weekday. There is no train station in Ashmore, however buses 20 and 20A can be caught from Nerang Station to Ashmore.
