Ashmole School is a comprehensive foundation school in Southgate in the London Borough of Barnet near to its border with the London Borough of Enfield.

The school is in Cecil Road, near the part of the border between the London Borough of Barnet and the London Borough of Enfield that runs down Chase Side (A111).

The school was founded in 1958, and became a foundation school in 1999. It achieved specialist status in Science in 2002, and, after moving to the current buildings on the same site in 2004, added the second specialism, Music, in 2007. It is amongst the top performing comprehensive schools in the country[who?]. Its latest Ofsted Inpection report scored Ashmole grade 1, "Outstanding", except in the categories "behaviour of learners", "attendance of learners" and "How effective are teaching and learning in meeting the full range of the learners' needs?".[1][citation needed]

[edit] Buildings

Main Building (2004)

The school moved into the new Main Building in September 2004 and it holds the vast majority of available facilities/subject including: Reception, Sports, English, Maths, Science, Humanities, Modern Languages, IT, Art, Library, Refectory and the Hall.

Performing Arts Centre (2005)

Originally this block served as administration and was the centre of Ashmole School. From September 2004 - May 2005, the building was refurbished to become the "Performing Arts Centre". As the name suggests, this building holds Drama, Music and Media but also the ILR and various offices.

Technology Block (2001)

This building holds Food, Graphics, Textiles and Resistant Materials. Now since September 2007, this building also holds Science.

Sixth Form Centre (2003)

As the name suggests, this building is for the Post-16 students. In previous years, the demountable also served as Curriculum Support, Phoenix Centre and Temporary Drama.

Curriculum Support (2003)

The demountable was originally intended to be two classrooms, but since the new school, it was used as an Exams Room. Now since September 2007, the demountable is Curriculum Support.

Music 2 (MU2) (2000)

The demountable was originally the IT room but then served from 2004 as Curriculum support and then from 2006-Present, Music 2 (MU2).

The school celebrates its fiftieth birthday in the school year 2007/2008 (since moving to its current site). In celebration of this event, the school hosted its first official Re-union on the 9th November. Over 500 people from across the world attended the re-union.

As part of the 50 year celebrations the school has formed an old pupils association the 'Old Ashmolean Association'.
