Ashley Castle
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ashley Castle was in the small village of Ashley, Hampshire (grid reference SU385308).
It was built in 1138 on the site of a former Iron Age fort by Henry de Blois. It was slighted in 1155, but was then repaired and used until the middle of the 15th century as a palace by the Bishops of Winchester. It was abandoned in the 17th century. Only the earthworks, the remains of the gatehouse and curtain wall remain.[1]
