Ashley, New South Wales

Ashley (29°18′S, 149°49′E) is a small community of 250 people 10km north of Moree, New South Wales, Australia and 692km from Sydney. The village is at a height of 201.4 metres and is in Bogree parish, Courallie County.

The public school opened as Medgun Creek in February 1898 and changed to Ashley in October 1908 finally closing in August 1968. A post office opened 20 Apr 1899, closed 1978 and the railway opened 29 Sep 1913, closed 17 Dec 1974. There is a hall, a park and a small fire service.

It is a major cotton centre with two large cotton gins already operating in the district. Other agriculture such as sheep, wool, wheat and beef cattle are also found operating in the Ashley area.

The Midkin Nature Reserve, Gingham Rd, Ashley, has been placed on the Register of the National Estate.
