Ashalim

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ashalim (Hebrew: אשלים‎) is a small moshav in the Negev desert of southern Israel. Built on the eastern side of Nahal Bashur, the largest stream in the Negev, it is named for the old Ashalim, one of three Nahal settlements founded between Mashabey Sadeh and Nitzana in 1956. The name itself means Tamarixs, a genus of shrubs and small trees.

The modern moshav was founded in 1979 after moving from Bir Asluj Hill close to Golda Park (a nearby artificial lake). Belonging to the Moshav movement, it has around 150 residents and is located within the Ramat HaNegev Regional Council.

Adiel Village, a village for students of the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev was founded near the moshav by the Ayalim organisation.
