Ashwani "Ash" Ferreira was a fictional character on the BBC soap opera EastEnders. He was played by Raji James.

[edit] Description

Ash first appeared in 2003, arriving with his brothers Adi and Ronny, sister Kareena and father Dan. He was portrayed as the intelligent member of the family; the standard of his education was much better than his siblings, so much so that he was a lecturer. When he arrived in Walford, he was soon working for the local community centre. Despite this, he did have an on/off problem with gambling, something that had presumably led to the break up of his first marriage, before he was seen on screen. His first big storyline was his relationship with his dad's ex-girlfriend Shirley Benson, who he broke up with to protect Adi from jealous Dan's abuse.

He became a devoted member of the family cab company Toucan Cars, but this led to his downfall, when a number of cars - belonging to gangster Johnny Allen - went missing after being loaned to the company. Johnny ordered Ash and his brothers out of Walford.

[edit] Criticism

Like the other Ferreiras, Ash was arguably unpopular with fans, and axed in 2005 as a result. However, it could be said that the character was not used to his full potential; during 2005, he rarely appeared on the show.
